I just decided this has GOT to be my favorite frosting. Its sweet, tangy, deep with flavor, a little mocha going on.
Here is where I got the recipe to start with.
Chocolate Cupcakes with Milk Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting
Milk Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting:
6-oz milk chocolate
4 tbsp butter
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 – 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
Melt together chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes, or until close to room temperature, then stir in the sour cream, salt and vanilla extract. When smooth, blend in (with an electric mixer) about 1 cup confectioners’ sugar. Gradually add in remaining confectioners’ sugar until a smooth, spreadable consistency is reached.
Now I mixed this up according to directions, but it looked the same color as yesterday’s frosting. I wanted it dark like this…

So I added a cup of Mocha Hot Cocoa Mix and while I was at it the other 6 oz of chocolate chips. It came in a 12 oz bag. Shame to hold back on the chocolate, right?
I was pretty happy with the results. Not too stiff a frosting, very melty actually and Jack is a fool for anything Milk Chocolate. So a thumbs up from him.
