Tiny Daisy Mums

Posted on Jun 17, 2011

Hey Good Morning!! * Happy Wave*

Just finished today’s workout and I am feeling all dreamy and content after my bowl of oats. I could go for a nap, but for now I would rather gab at you all instead. Sure I am sitting down and that feels really good, but YOU, you are the ones that pull the chair out for me each morning. Thanks for being here, Cuties!

First off, Without Delay!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Dad and His Alaskan Halibut 2009. Go Dad!

I am going to do some math so watch out…it could get ugly! *smile*

1933 from 2011 is 78! My Sweet Powerhouse of a Dad is 78 today.

I have to tell you all a tiny story, we went camping with my dad and mom in 2003. It was great! The Arizona High Country: The Mogollon Rim (pronounced mug-ee-on) is absolutely the most beautiful place on earth to me. Its Cool and full of Ponderosa Pines above and on the rim and below the land sweeps and bobs in elevation hundreds of miles to the dessert valley where Phoenix rests. Lakes abound and that is where my dad taught me and my 5 siblings to camp, fish by lure and fly, pick wild raspberries, respect the land, and leave the world better because you were there. Big lessons gently taught to little kids in beautiful country stick to them no matter how big or far away they get. Love you Dad.

Steering back to the story…Jack, Dillon, Nathan and I went camping with Mom and Dad. My Dad was 70 then. He brought out an ax because we had some deadfall in the camp and it was just nice to chop it up so kids didn’t fall over it. That’s how my dad thinks. Make things better, think about kids, clean up the earth. So he hands the ax to my man Jack. “ Give that a wack, Jack” Well Jack did, with all his might he tried to split that wood. He tried again. My Jack didn’t give up for a few more wacks all the time my Dad just looked on not a look to his face or a word from his mouth. Just looking. Finally, out of breath and a bit confused Jack backed off the log saying,

“I can’t do it!”

“Well…let me give it the Goodman try” ( I was a Goodman before I was a Cates, btw. )

“The trick is to go Through the wood, not TO the wood.”

We all look on in anticipation.

One 70 year old wack and the log fell into two halves.

Another 70 year old wack and one half fell into two quarters.

Another 70 year old wack and the other half fell into quarters.

And so it went until the long was split and stacked.

Jack and our two little boys…speachless.

“You didn’t know an old man could do that, did you Jack?” All the time punctuating his words with his jovial laugh.

Jack, in awe…”No SIR!” Laughing  “No SIR!”

That’s My Dad. He might best ya’ but he will never make you feel the fool for trying. And he is always teaching what he knows.

Thanks Dad! Happy Birthday!

New Product Today! + Freebie

I grew these Tiny Daisy Mums in the garden for years. I guess they have an expiration date? Or the winter was unkind to them in sleep?

None came up this year. *head scratch*

In past years they were cute little thumb-size buttons of color. The bees waltzed in lazy circles around the centers last Autumn, sometimes falling to their sides, grasping and buzzing around and around like the Tea Cup ride at Disneyland. If I closed my eyes their buzzing sounded like happy children.

I was getting ready to delete an old file called “assorted flowers for extraction” I had gone through 5 or 6 subfolders with promising titles like “Snapdragon”, “Spider Mum, “Christmas Holly” and “Pressed White Daisy” all to find the pictures and scans were not top shelf or just plain old boring.

I am no longer young. That said, if I am going to trade valuable eye squint time to extract say, …a Spider Mum, its going to be the most gorgeous one around. One that I know I will personally use and feel excited about everytime. My thoughts were “ Trash the whole file, nothing in here with spunk!” So with my finger poised over the delete button my eye caught “Ruby Daisy Mums” Hmmm? I could not remember having or even scanning anything like that. So I had to look.

JODIANNsCUtinydaisymums-150k  Tiny Daisy Mums! WOW! Spunky!

I changed Ruby to Tiny because they are small, 200px-400px. Leaves twice that. Preview accurate on size of leaves to flowers. Small is good for scatters, frames, borders, and the like without too much sizing down on your end. Actual flowers were no more than a couple centimeters across.

I love your dad story! I could use him when it comes time to chop firewood. LOL I would love to know your dad. He sounds like a real trooper!
When I was in my 20′s, my hubby and I went for a day to the beach. On the way home we stopped by a bar and had a couple of beers. Of all the people to run into, my parents came in. I wasn’t a half bad pool player, in fact, I was rather pompous about it. (I once kept a table for the whole evening as no one could beat me. lol) So, I challenged my father to a game of 9-Ball. He commenced to stomp my butt! LOL It was funny!
Glad you’re feeling better. Baby steps – take it easy!
    Hugs to you,
    Su
