First off, I promised myself I would be brief about jury duty. This is me trying to do that.
I chose not to disqualify myself from jury duty for health reasons because I would hope if I needed a jury trial I would get people who wished to serve justice ahead of their own personal problems. After serving on a jury I feel the same way, if not more urgently than I felt before. Serving on a jury requires selflessness. Setting aside personal judgments outside the evidence. I didn’t always do that, but I didn’t sell out my convictions to go home early either. So I am cool with my failures. I slept good last night knowing I would want me on a jury if I ever needed one. Warts and all. But if I really think about it, who wouldn’t say that?
Though I didn’t need reconfirmation of Jack and I’s decision to homeschool our boys, I received it by serving with a the local high school administrator yesterday. A good man, a kind man, who when tested sold his convictions off cheap and pressured others to do so to be home on time for dinner. Amazing what a few hours in a jury room will reduce a good person to.
In the end, myself and a male juror would not be moved from our stance. So the jury was allowed to return a verdict without us. A 10-2 decision is allowed in this type of civil case.
The verdict found the defendant 99% responsible for the plaintiff injuries yet only paid the plaintiff $2077.00 for past medical bills, 2 weeks lost pay, and $500.00 for future medical expenses. Plaintiff was asking for $15,000 total.
If anyone is wondering, the jury was cleared to discuss this matter with who ever they choose so I am free to name names and list amounts, but I chose to keep the names of the people I mentioned to myself because I didn’t ask them personally.

Okay now for the main event! LOL!
Hang in here with me while I explain a little something we learned at the specialist. To backtrack slightly I went to see Dr. Squishy on Monday. He referred me to a pulmonologist, Dr. Ostranski who knows his shizz! My heart still belongs to Dr. Squishy, but there is a tie for second place! *wicked grin* Still backtracking, Dr. Squishy’s interns ( Baby D.O.s) got me on the table for manipulation practice for about an hour and couldn’t move anything…like usual. I am a pretty hard nut to crack. I was pretty sore on Tuesday for jury grab and go. Wednesday Jack and I went to see Dr. O. Breathing tests show I am at 60% breathing capacity…not shocked about that, the wild thing, the part that knocked me sideways…my lung contusion has been weeping for 6 months and the imaging ( CT mostly) shows thick congealed blood both inside and outside ( chest cavity) the lungs. The seeping into the chest cavity is the reason for my 60% lung capacity. Take a deep breath, your lungs just moved into a space open to them in the chest cavity. If the space wasn’t there you wouldn’t be able to breath very deeply. Large amounts of blood in the chest cavity can also displace organs. ( push them out under the ribcage and giving one a Buddha belly.) I am working on mine with some organ displacement, but its still fun right now, rubbing my Buddha Belly to make us all laugh around here. I never knew what that was caused by, its nice to know.
So the blood must come out, yet some of it is thick like playdough, even scalloped by my lungs pressing against them. No wonder the Baby D.O.s can’t move anything, no room! Being new doctors they probably think its their fault too. They will learn. LOL! A good reason why my lung contusion will not heal: its bashing against a sticky blood wall every time I take a breath. Gotta’ Breathe, Man!
Good News!
There is an outpatient procedure ( timeframe: 2 weeks) we are going to try where the blood is extracted with large needles through the back. ( Ultrasound Guided Thoracentesis) The issues with this is if the blood is thick ( like a milkshake) and cannot be drawn out then what is left to try is the right lung is collapsed (to make room to work) and the blood is removed surgically. ( timeframe: ASAP if Thoracentesis fails).
I am rooting for the big needles in the back. I get how messed up that sounds! *wink* But we pay our own medical bills and I would like to get out for less than the price of our house. Yet, Jack and I have decided if the financial aspect is all the trouble we have, then we have no trouble.
Money? You can always get more money.
Time, Health, Love.
Those are the things you can never have too much of.
So we are good.
Better than good.
Dr. O has engaged the very best Invasive Radiologists and the best medical facility for this in Texas. His staff is making all the arrangements. I feel tremendous support and zero stress. Sometimes an issue is so large, its beyond stress. It requires surrender and courage. My job is to be my happy self, prepare my body with good food, supplements, and lots of water. Donate blood.
The rest I surrender.
Tomorrow I will have a freebie for you all. Because my happy self demands I make something to give away in order to BE my happy self! *wink*

The picture shy scarecrow and me at the local garden spot where I spent my lunch hour between court sessions yesterday. Best Lunch Ever! Squirrels letting me feed them blueberries and nuts as well as watching a hawk and vulture ride the air currents with my shoes kicked of and toes crunching the winter rye grass. Bees buzzing, Birds singing. I even took a little nap! Delightful!
Is that a blueberry mustache? Nom. Nom.
Happy Friday Sweet Friends!

You appear to be in pretty good shape, for the shape you’re in, LOL! Happy smiley face…that’s what we like to see in the Bean! So very glad there’s a plan in place, even tho it sounds awful, I know it’s what you have to have…and that you are tough enough to take it! You know you’re (all) in my thoughts every day…hugs to all…and give us an update on Gracie, LOL!
Good for you standing-up for your convictions, I’m happy to hear that your medical problems allowed you to be able to do your duty. I have never had to actually sit for a trail, I just have had to sit in the jury room incase they needed bodies. I did come close one time, but neither lawyer like me so I got the boot. Glad to hear you got a top Doc for your issues. If you haven’t already, you should contact the billing department for the medical facility and discuss payment options. They may know a medical study that could help pay and you would only have to let them in on medical results and/or have samples. Most studies assign a patient number to all samples and results and only the coordinators have your name and contact info for follow-up information. I work for a hospital and have been a guinea pig for many studies due to my health issues. Hope the needle works, surgery is not fun take if from somebody who’s had to 3 times with the 3rd time was real 3, 4 & 5 due to bleeders. Have a great weekend!
Hey Rosie! Thanks so much for your sweet support! I promise to talk about Gracie later today, my dear!
Liane! That’s a great idea! I will talk to the facility and see what they have going. Jack is involved in a study right now about replacement knees and many folks get multiple MRIs. Those are pricey! His company doesn’t do payments but they will do a significant reduction for private pay patients. Getting into a study, reductions for private pay, are all things I didn’t think of before. Thanks Honey!
