What do you call a computer that has come back from the dead? Compu-Zombie? Com-Zom-Bee?
A bootkey virus slipped by my security and went for straight for my cookie! Doesn’t that sound provocative! HOOT! Jack Darlin’ couldn’t close the backdoor and I kept losing more and more data so we killed the drive. Jack wanted to give it the double-tap and wipe it. I agreed, but in the end we were whoosie girls. We just cut the operating system out of the poor thing so it just became a storage drive, lobotomizing it like in One Flew Over The Coo-Coo’s Nest.
So all this week it was my job to reinstall programs and move the custom files of those programs from the drooling Franken-drive to the new bright and shining 1TB drive without getting bits of bad stuff in the mix. Sometimes I wonder if it was worth all that cleaning up and scanning, ( that is just the cranky tired me talking…of course my data is worth it! LOL!) Nearly done now. I have a few things I am putting off until I use those programs again because I am lazy and want to get back to making things now.
Each time I crash my computer I learn something. The first time I beefed up security, and the second time too, okay and the third! LOL! A few times back ( slow learner) I set up a back up drive. Sadly I didn’t use it. I always had an excuse. It was too hard to do, it took too long…blah blah blah. Well so is recovering from a crash, Silly! A few years ago, my hubby began practicing tough love. He used to spend all night fixing my messes ( he still does this to a degree) but he began leaving the bulk of the mindless work to me. Now that I feel the pain of a crash more I am suppose to mend my ways. I DID make some decisions to protect myself, but I really think life is full of roses not thorns so I don’t see disaster as inevitable, I think I might just sneak past all the bad things in computer land so I don’t back up anything. The best thing I ever did was putting all my storage files on a separate external drive and when the computer does its strange death dance I unplug my externals to be double sure they don’t get tainted. These last 2 years I have had nothing but happy sleep knowing all my design data, pictures, and yummy-yums are safe. I can’t put a price on sleep, can you?
This time, my Jack-Jack partitioned my shiny new hard drive and made huge back up space for it. So now I can back up quicker, thus I might actually do it! I haven’t actually used it yet, so let’s not get carried away that I am reformed. I did pitch a complete fit a few nights ago in which the whine went something like “You can’t expect me to back-up stuff every night, you techie-dictator!” To which Jack reminded me I don’t know how to install an Operating System and partition a hard drive. Touche’ That took the beast out of me! HOOT!
All you ladies in the Sisterhood who just thought “ Don’t back down, you can learn to install and partition as good as any man!” Don’t get you panties in a bunch, my sisters. You’re right I can learn to do those things. I just don’t want to. I want to be a kept woman on those scores.
Just like Jack does not like to cook, and still like to eat. Doesn’t do yardwork but doesn’t wish to carry a machete to blaze a trail to his car. I want to have a computer and not have any idea how some stuff got on it. WHOOT!

Hooray Hooray you’re back! I’ve missed you!
.-= Shannon´s last blog ..Happy Earth Day =-.
I’m glad to hear you didn’t lose any of your designs with the nasty bug! I am still reloading programs and I’ve had my computer running for months, haha! I would still use an external also because if your hard drive goes belly up you can lose the partition, too. An extra backup is a great thing, chow!
I’m with you… I can learn to fix my puter too but I don’t want to… rather let the hubbo do that since I have to do all the cooking and cleaning! Thank You sooooo much for this lovely addition to the color challenge
